Environment and sustainability at Spacefinder

As a new player in the real estate industry, Spacefinder has a modest climate footprint. Nevertheless, we aim to contribute positively and think sustainably in our operations. Our services contribute to a more sustainable direction for commercial real estate by helping more companies find the right space – whether it's an office, warehouse, or retail premises. In this way, we achieve better resource utilization and more sustainable decisions in the real estate market.

The right tenant for the right floor plan

How does Spacefinder contribute to sustainable development?

The right tenant for the right floor plan

A tenant change in commercial premises often involves extensive demolition and adjustments to meet the needs of the new tenant. Spacefinder focuses on layout rather than area and helps businesses find spaces that fit their needs as closely as possible “as-is.” In this way, the need for unnecessary construction and material use is reduced. Solutions become resource-efficient and economical for both landlords and tenants. By matching the right business with the right layout, we contribute significantly to the reuse of existing materials and solutions.

Highlighting surplus space

How does Spacefinder contribute to sustainable development?

Highlighting surplus space

Spacefinder has developed a marketplace for commercial spaces, where advertising is based on concrete information about available space combinations and layouts rather than general property listings. In addition, Spacefinder serves as a channel for spaces that are unused and intended for sublease. By better utilizing the actual available capacity in the market, the need for new construction is reduced. This is crucial for cutting greenhouse gas emissions in the building and real estate sector, which, according to Byggalliansen, accounts for around 70 percent of emissions. Spacefinder thus contributes to a more sustainable and efficient use of existing commercial spaces.

Decent work and economic growth

UN SDG No. 8

Decent work and economic growth

Spacefinder indirectly contributes to economic growth for small and medium-sized enterprises by making it easier to find commercial spaces that meet their needs. By reducing time, costs, and resource use associated with remodeling and adjustments, we facilitate more sustainable operations and value creation. Although we do not directly create jobs, we support the productivity and stability of the SME segment, which are central elements of Sustainable Development Goal 8.

Sustainable cities and communities

UN SDG No. 11

Sustainable cities and communities

Spacefinder promotes optimized use of existing commercial spaces — by matching businesses with spaces that already exist and are suitable, instead of stimulating new construction. This contributes to better space utilization, fewer new buildings, and consequently reduced pressure on urban structures, infrastructure, and the environment. By promoting reuse and better utilization of commercial real estate, we support the vision of sustainable cities and communities.

Responsible consumption and production

UN SDG No. 12

Responsible consumption and production

By finding the “right” premises with existing layouts—and by highlighting unused space—Spacefinder helps reduce material use, unnecessary large-scale renovations, and construction projects. This aligns with the principle of responsible consumption and production: instead of continuous new production (new buildings/renovations), promote reuse and optimal resource use. This reduces waste and environmental impact associated with the construction and real estate sector.

Climate action

UN SDG No. 13

Climate action

By reducing the need for new construction and unnecessary renovations, and thereby cutting emissions related to building materials, transportation, construction processes, and energy use, Spacefinder indirectly helps mitigate the climate impact of the building and real estate sector. As the construction sector is a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions, optimized space utilization and reuse of existing premises can be an important contribution to climate efforts.
